Most people spend more time trying to avoid problems than in trying to solve them.

Purpose

This module was developed in response to user demands to provide a horizontal image navigation at the bottom of the site.

This module responds to the need for site visitors, when reaching the bottom of the page (during the read of an article or news story) to have basic site navigation available to them to get to different areas of the site, without having to scroll to the top of the page.

Description

This module allows for site visitors, when reaching the bottom of the page (during the read of an article or news story) to have basic site navigation available to them to get to different areas of the site, without having to scroll to the top of the page. This area typically includes content areas such as: Contact Us, Legal terms, Privacy policy, etc.

How To Use

The first thing you will want to do is to check your site properties to see if Bottom Image Nav Display is turned on or off. If you want to use it, simply turn it on, by adjusting the value of the site property. The next would be to check the Site Property which controls Bottom Nav Bar Position (which controls the horizontal alignment of the bottom nav, either Left, Center, or Right justified.)

The next thing you will want to do is to click on the Design tab within your Client Console, and select Bottom Image Nav. While entering a new record, it will allow you to upload your image, the rollover image (which provides a rollover effect when moused over), the URL or path that this nav item will link to (either would be a link to a page within Centralpoint or outside website). It will then ask you which numeric order this will appear in within the site navigation (1,2,3,4,5, etc.) The ordering is managed from Left to Right, giving you the control over the placement of each bottom bar nav image within this area.

Tips About This Module

You will want to make sure that these images (collectively) do not exceed the width of your site (if you are using a fixed width to your site). Additionally, these images are 'typically' 70-100pixels(width) by 15-40pixels(height), but can be any size that you want, allowing approximately up to 8-10 of these to be managed within an 800 pixel width site.  Some clients will simply upload one singular image here (brand message or tag line) depending on the site design, or it doesnt have to be used at all.

If Bottom Nav Images are NOT being used for your site, and you noticed a horizontal gap at the bottom of your site, this would mean that the site property is turned ON for your site, but you do not have images available to fill the gap. If you don't want to use this, simply turn off the Bottom Nav Image Display feature within the Site Property.

Additional Information

This module has the ability to manage a large number of records, in the event you are interested in serving different records of this type to different Audience Types (Channel Sites), or Sites (Sub-Channels) within your portal. Additionally, these records have an Access Level control. This Access level allows you to serve different records to different types of members, based on whether they are logged in (Private) or not (Public).

These controls are intended for much larger portals (or the future growth of your own portal), and if not needed, it is recommended that you select 'All' for audience type, 'All' for Sites, and Access Level, select 'Both'. This will ensure that whenever you do elect to provide member level access, or create new Audience Types and Sites within your portal, that these records will be able to be immediately seen within those new areas or members.

Files uploaded within this module are actually stored in a 'Media Store' within the root directory of your site, and reference by the database which allow you to see them both within the Client Console, and while on the website (by your users). To view the 'path' created to these files, simply open an existing record that you have submitted, and right click over the image or file which exists for that record. This path that is provided can be referred to anywhere within the site, providing your users the ability to view that file within a separate browser window when clicked on. File Upload supports up to 620 file types.
