Purpose

This module was developed to allow all News items to be easily managed and searched within your site, including the ability to search by taxonomy type(s) (metadata) This module centralizes the management of News from 'central-point' across multiple audience types and sites. News can also be managed by local content managers, and searched globally. This module empowers organizations with centralized control and management over all of their current and archived News records.

Description

Company Spotlight can be easily managed by your staff (HQ or local) , searched by your site visitors, and even syndicated via XML/RSS to partners and affiliates that you may want to offer them to. Company Spotlight records can be download by your members, and supports over 620 file types (Example: MS/ Word, MS/Excel, PDF, CAD Drawings, Video, Audio, etc.)

Visitors to your site can search all Company Spotlight records, or search only specific types of Media(Taxonomy type) in order to better find what they are looking for. XML/RSS Syndication may also be used to pull from this central repository of Company Spotlight records, and distributed to others outside of your site. This module offers data import and data export, empowering you to either export out the records of this type, or import from disparate database(s) in which to populate this module. Exports may be filtered by XSLT, in order to stylize this data for other purposes. The Company Spotlight module can be customized for your specific needs through formatting modules such as: Module Stylesheets, Module Headers, Section Headers, Taxonomy Types, Results Text, and Module Font Settings to achieve your desired presentation.

This module may be modified allowing specific fields to be re-configured to meet the requirements of your enterprise initiative(s).

How To Use

This module is found within the Site Content tab of your Client Console. Simply click on the module and 'new' to add a new record. The module will ask you for the Title of the record. It will also ask for the Start date and End date for the record which will determine when the page will go live to the site, and automatically be no longer visible within site....always keeping it in archive, unless deleted altogether. These are the only required fields for this module, to enter it within the Client Console.

The remainder of fields are optional, but recommended. The module will offer fields for you to enter a Caption or Body Copy description for this record. The caption is often used within the Search results, and gives site visitors a brief caption of what is found in this document, before clicking on it. You can copy and paste information directory into the Body Copy or Description fields (from HTML, the web, or MS/Word) , or click on the small HTML tab at the bottom of the window to add your own code. Additionally, you can upload images either directly from the Rich Text Formatting toolbar, or through file upload, if it is an available feature in your module. The toolbar above the text box will give you all of the functions needed to manage this text, just as if you were formatting it in MS/Word, complete with the ability to manage tables, cells, and images.

Next it will ask you to select the 'Taxonomy Types' this record should be associated to. These metadata keywords help your record be found easier by site visitors, and the keywords found in these lists are managed under Taxonomy Types, under the Admin tab of your Client Console. If you would like to change the options in these lists either you can, or your Site Administrator can at any time. Alternative Links can also be managed if you wish to resolved to a different web page, when a user clicks on this record.

Next it will ask you to select the Audience Type(s) or Site(s) that this record will be seen within (you may select as many of these as needed, or ALL), and also, what the 'Access Level' of the record is (public/private or both). This will allow you to determine which users will see the page, public being accessible by everyone, private being accessible by only your privileged site 'members' (managed by the Members module). Simply use your 'ctrl' button on your keyboard to select individual ones, or use the shift button to select a range.

Finally the module will ask you for the Display Status of this record (Hold/Release). Releasing this record will release it to the live site (assuming that you are not subject to editorial review) whereas Hold will keep the record, until you decide to release it (which is a handy tool for reviewing and preparing content BEFORE it goes live.)

Tips About This Module

If you are not managing multiple Audience Types and Sites within your portal, it is a safe bet to always tag these records to ALL Audience Types. In this way, if you ever decide to activate an Audience type or site in the future, it will have these records available to it automatically, upon creation.

If you are not managing private content rules for your members (public and/or private) it would be a good idea to tag these records to 'both'. In this way, if you ever elect to open up areas of your site to only private (logged in members), these records will be available.

Planning and thought is recommended for the taxonomy types used for this module, which will help you manage your records eaiser, and allow site visitors to 'find' these records

One singular link to this module, (on the front end of the site) can be shared across Audience Types and Sites (all or some) within your enterprise. This singular link, shared by all, will automatically filter records relevant to one vs. another, based on the audience types and site assignment made to the records during submission. This process allows you to manage a broad audience of site visitors from one centralpoint.
