Web 1.0

| Web 1.0 represents the first generation of web development which occurred between 1995 and 1999. Each site was hand coded around each client needs. During this time there were no standards or best practices for any company to follow. Countless vendors cropped up to meet market demands, but each had the same model which consisted of consulting, programming, and many billable hours. This approach was inefficient resulting in re-invention and redundancy. Many a CIO bet the farm on multi million dollar projects and the start up of interactive divisions within their company which did not work. This is why the technology 'bubble' burst so quickly and so hard. The demand was certainly there, but the supply was not. |
Web 2.0

| Web 2.0 represents the second generation of web development (2000-Present). Web 2.0 means standards and a general menu of tools that are commonly needed by every organization in the world. Most vendors specialize in just one of these Web 2.0 tools (like ecommerce, calendar scheduling or online donations). They individually market their one tool, as if they are the only vendor capable of delivering it. Yes, some provide a better tool than others, but generally they are all the same. Most clients today have cobbled together various Web 2.0 tools to create a total web project. This is where we are today, facing internet projects, intranets and extranets put together with web 2.0 tools from multiple vendors. |
Web 3.0

Oxcyon actually coined the phrase Web 3.0. Web 3.0 represents a Service Oriented Architecture, which consists of all Web 2.0 tools including a remote web update to make sure that when new ones are introduced clients receive them automatically. This is what Centralpoint is. Centralpoint's Web 3.0 SOA means truly integrated Web 2.0 tools, which offer a harmony 'between' them. This allows you to relate one record in one tool (say, Calendar) to another record in a different tool (like Articles). Centralpoint lets you make these relationships by a shared taxonomy, suggesting certain events you may be interested in when reading an article, or vice versa.
Centralpoint's Web 3.0 SOA also allows clients to create their own custom modules (in addition to what we provide them), and they still are able to receive our updates. This means Centralpoint is not a rigid 'out-of-the-box-only' solution. We understand what is horizontal, and needed by all yet we are sensitive to the needs that clients will always need to customize local modules and tools the way they want to.
